Going Lighter – What to Expect
Lightening your hair requires a consultation to set realistic expectations around the time, cost, and number of sessions needed. The process involves removing your natural pigment, which can cause stress and potential damage to the hair.
To maintain the health and integrity of lightened hair, professional products will be necessary to repair and support it. Toning is also essential to eliminate unwanted brassy tones and achieve your desired shade.
Ongoing care is crucial and includes the use of bond-building treatments, protein and moisture masks, leave-in conditioners, and purple shampoo and conditioner to maintain tone and strength.
If you’re looking for a more gradual transition, techniques such as highlights, balayage, or ombré can help you go lighter with minimal damage.
Please allow adequate time for your appointments, as lightening is a time-intensive process that varies based on your hair’s condition and goals.
FAQs

-
-
How long does a lightening appointment take?
You should expect to be with us for a few hours—sometimes 2 to 6+, depending on your hair length, thickness, and the technique used. We recommend allowing plenty of time for your appointment so we can give your hair the care and attention it needs.
-
How many sessions will I need to reach my desired shade?
Every head of hair is different. Depending on your current color, hair history, and the look you’re going for, lightening may take multiple sessions. We’ll assess your hair during a consultation and create a personalized plan.
-
Can I go from dark to blonde in one session?
In most cases, no. If you have darker or previously colored hair, achieving a lighter shade safely will require a gradual, multi-session process. Rushing it risks severe damage—we prefer a healthy, beautiful transformation.
-
How long will my lighter color last?
While the lightened base is permanent, the tone may fade over time. Regular toning and proper home care will help keep your color vibrant and beautiful.
-
Will lightening affect my curls or texture?
It can, especially if not cared for properly. Lightening may loosen curls or increase dryness. We’ll help you protect your texture with the right treatments and products for your hair type.
-
Is lightening safe for my hair type?
We strongly recommend booking in for a free hair consultation so we can assess and figure out if lightening is going to be suitable for your hair. If your hair is fragile we can then come up with a plan to strengthen your hair back up before any lightening.
-
What is toner, and do I need it?
Yes! Toner is used after lightening to refine the color and remove unwanted yellow or brassy tones. It’s essential for achieving that perfect colour you’re after. Toners can be refreshed 4-6 weeks after the lightening service to keep the colour you want in between lightening services.
